Why is it a good idea to store rainwater?

Table of contents

Water is a scarce commodity. Although many of us can't imagine it, access to it may soon be much more difficult. The vision of such problems does not only apply to poor African countries - Poland, too, is among those threatened by water scarcity. Meanwhile, plenty of rainfall-derived, usable water is widely wasted. How to collect the so-called "rainwater " and why is it worth doing?

How to use rainwater?

To begin with, it is worth answering the question in the subtitle. Unfortunately, rainwater is not suitable for consumption. It contains a lot of impurities collected both from the air and from the surfaces over which it flows. However, this does not mean that it is useless. Rainwater is characterized by greater softness than water flowing through the waterworks - it contains less calcium and magnesium ions in the form of white sediment. This means that the popular "scale" is not formed as a result of its use. As you can easily guess, this property makes this type of water ideal for washing, washing all types of equipment or car. Rainwater is also commonly used in gardening. A huge influence on its composition is the purity of the air. The best quality rainwater is mainly found in the mountainous regions of the country, but even such pure rainwater is not suitable for consumption.

How to store water?

To collect it, so-called retention tanks are used. Most often these are polyethylene water containers, often looking like barrels. Rainwater can be collected both in underground tanks and those located on the ground. There are also natural "stores" for water, often with decorative functions, such as ponds. However, such tanks are impractical and require cleaning. It will be far better to invest in plastic-made closed tanks. The simplest way to collect water is to place a container (even a barrel) under the gutter. However, this type of solution is neither aesthetically pleasing nor functional. It will also be a good idea to place the tank next to the drain pipe and connect it with a suitable connector. The so-called rainwater collector allows you to effectively collect and filter rainwater, as well as to drain it into "storage".

By storing rainwater, each of us can contribute to the fight for a better future. After all, soon the shortage of usable water may turn out to be a pressing problem for mankind.
